World Book Day: Measly Middle Ages

Horrible Histories has been teaching kids the(as the name says) more horrible parts of history for over a decade. Written by Terry Deary, it takes a comical approach to teaching history, with a less rigid structure than conventional books of it’s kind, in the second person and nowhere near as formal.

The measly middle ages talks about nasty Normans, nutty knights, monks, crusades and a lot more. The series of books is a great way to get your kids interested in history and reading, you can also get adaptations of the books on audio tapes. Or you could always catch one of it’ theatre productions this year!

Beauty & The Beast Now In 3D!

Today sees the re-release of Beauty & The Beast in 3D at a cinema near you.

The third film in the Disney Renaissance period it’s loosely based around the fairy tale La Belle et la Bete.

A childhood classic, it features a strong heroine, beautiful musical pieces and a story whose themes give children a moral message of Beauty being on the inside.

Coming on the back of the success of The Lion King’s 3D re-issue, the process has been an arduous one from a technical standpoint. Being the second film Converted to 3D, this classic masterpiece involved a year of research to develop the tools to convert it.

Never got to see The King in concert? Maybe it’s not too late, Elvis Presley in concert is touring this year!

The King may be missing to but thanks a full orchestra, some of his original band mates and footage from some his most electrifying concerts, the Elvis experience has brought The King back to life.

The performers play live alongside Elvis’ vocals, stripped from selected multi-track footage of MGM concert films “Elvis, That’s The Way It Is” (1970), “Elvis on Tour” (1972) and from the television special “Elvis: Aloha from Hawaii, via Satellite.”

Presley is projected onto giant screens alongside the musicians, his stage presence; the seamless interaction with live musicians makes for an intense experience. The quality of the production from lighting and stage design to the actual performance makes the show unmissable.
